What is Leukemia?

I'm not at all familiar with medicine, much less with this condition.
Here's what I have so far:
Leukemia is cancer of the blood cells. There are three types of blood cells all make by our bone marrow:

  • White blood cells (fight infection and disease)
  • Platelets (they help stop bleeding by causing blood clots to form)
  • Red blood cells (carry oxygen to tissue throughout the body)
In Leukemia the bone marrow doesn't make the cells correctly and over time the blood can't work as it should. Bringing Oxygen to all parts of our body, fighting disease, and preventing us from bleeding out.

Right now Edith needs to receive platelets.

Please take some of your time and donate to help her get through this time. Call the blood bank at the University of Chicago Hospital at, and let them know you want to donate platelets for Edith Vargas. The process takes about two hours of your time and gives Edith more time recover.
